Persian Singer Mahsa Vahdat and Bridget Kibbey Perform in Duo
ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Mahsa and Bridget became fast friends after an Artistic Director introduced them in San Francisco right before the pandemic. You can witness their first improvisation in the video below, captured on Bridget's iphone! Since that time, the two have connected for events celebrating the sounds of the Islamic Golden Era and the timeless poetry of Rumi and Hafez; and through it all, the voice being a powerful form of resistance in today's cry for women's rights. For this collaboration, Mahsa sings her own composed melodies, while Bridget improvises the entire set to create the rhythm, soundscapes, and modes behind the music. This event is sponsored by the Persia Society at UCSD, and Bridget is so pleased to join Mahsa in continuing to learn these beautiful Iranian traditions alongside one of its masters.
