Bach to Brazil

Harp, Percussion, Violin. Kibbey, with Latin-Grammy winning Samuel Torres, and wishing a warm welcome to our newest member Sphinx Competition winner Rubén Rengel! The trio joins up to celebrate one of history's grandest cultural migration stories, while highlighting today's Nuevo Latino luminaries. Starting with the baroque courts of Europe, adding in the rhythm of Western Africa, mixing in the indigenous melodies of the Caribbean Coast, the team track the musical threads as they cross-pollinate, creating the song and dance forms we love alongside the folk masters who inspired them. Cumbia, Joropo, Chorinho, Mambo, Melanga, Jequibau, and the Kora tradition, in works by Isaac Albéniz, José Barros, Jacob de Bandolim, Yacouba Sissoko, Paquito d'Rivera, Juan Manuel Plaza, Samuel Torres, Rubén Rengel, Bridget Kibbey, Astor Piazzola, and João Luiz.

MOSA CONCERTS

From 2022-2024, Kibbey was the Artistic Director of MOSA Concerts, elevating a local concert series to a notable world-class, cross-genre performing arts series. Kibbey showcased the rich diversity of musicians who call Uptown Manhattan home, and refocused the series on presenting talent that live North of Harlem – crossing Classical, Baroque, Latin Jazz, and Global music idioms. Kibbey MC’d each event, tracking the history and stories behind the music.
